A Healthier Canada
Novo Nordisk has been Changing Diabetes in Canada for nearly 25 years. Today, with a total of 160 of employees working across the country, our vision is to defeat diabetes by finding better methods of diabetes prevention, detection and treatment.
Diabetes is on the rise. There are currently 2 million Canadians with diabetes and by 2010 that number will be 3 million. Largely comprised of cases of type two diabetes, this impending burden on the health care system can be greatly reduced if Canadians make simple changes in their personal behaviour.
Novo Nordisk Canada has therefore committed to improving the lives of Canadians by promoting the importance of healthy lifestyle choices. Adopting habits, such as regular exercise and eating a balanced diet, can reap big health benefits. And these benefits are far reaching. Heart disease, obesity, certain cancers and chronic illnesses, can all be prevented by making healthier choices.
Changing habits acquired over a lifetime is not easy. That’s why in 2005 Novo Nordisk partnered with the Ontario Physical Health and Education Association (OPHEA) to launch the Everyone Jump…Kids Changing Diabetes program. This curriculum-based learning guide promotes physical activity and healthy eating to grades 4-6 students.
Novo Nordisk Canada will build on this commitment. Through partnerships with health care providers and not-for-profit organizations we will drive research, advocacy, and communication initiatives to inspire all Canadians to make healthier lifestyle choices.
Novo Nordisk Canada is also committed to supporting causes related to the therapeutic areas in which we operate – diabetes , hemophilia and women’s health.
Similarly, in the area of hemophilia, Novo Nordisk Canada provides medical research grants and support to the Canadian Hemophilia Society.
